PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Showroom will be a boutique live entertainment venue and café in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Featuring a suite of state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment, including a 40’ x12’ ultra-high resolution LED screen, the multi-use space will allow creatives of all types – musicians, theater and dance troupes, comedians, actors, podcasters, fashion designers – to perform in front of a small live audience, up to 220 people.
The performance space will have the ability to accommodate multiple audience configurations depending on the type of event, including standing only, row seating, cocktail service, and full-service dining. Curated food and drinks will be provided by the in-house café, which will be open during the day as a coffee shop and bar featuring light bites and snacks. On event nights, the café will close to the public and service the audience, and on evenings with no events, it will remain open for dinner service.
The existing building, built in 1912, has previously been home to a variety of businesses including retail and office space, and an auto repair shop. Instead of being torn down, the building will be renovated and restored so the venue can take advantage of the high bow truss ceiling structure, concrete floors, and brick walls, allowing for a loft-like environment. Japanese Shou Sugi Ban charred wood paneling in the ticket lobby adds a sense of drama and expectation as visitors arrive and enter the performance space. Light walnut furnishings and stained wood paneling, along with sculptural light fixtures, add a luxe – but natural – sense of warmth.
In addition to the theater and café, the venue includes a box office, a merchandise booth, and administrative space. Located in the revitalized South Park neighborhood, the venue will be a welcome addition the neighborhood and provide residents with a walkable amenity.
