AUX Architecture was honored at the Los Angeles Business Council’s (LABC) 54th Annual Architectural Awards, winning the Adaptive Reuse Award in recognition of The Art Room. The award ceremony recognized more than four dozen leading architectural and design projects, including The Art Room located in Downtown Los Angeles, that advance Los Angeles as a global creative hub while promoting dynamic, inclusive communities.
Brian Wickersham accepted the award on behalf of the project team before an audience of architects, designers, business leaders, city and state officials at the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton.
Winners from a pool of hundreds were chosen by a jury panel consisting of industry experts, architects, construction firms, owners and developers. The event also featured keynote speaker Annie Chu, founding principal of Chu-Gooding, who received the Legacy Award for her contributions to architecture and civic leadership.
“This year the LABC is honoring projects whose inspired designs build on L.A.’s heritage and move the city toward a dynamic future,” said Mary Leslie, president of the Los Angeles Business Council. “From renewing entertainment venues and creative workspaces to reimagining parks, schools and housing, our honorees exemplify the power of architecture to serve the public good, foster progress, and build community.”
The Grand Prize-winning Netflix Egyptian Theatre reflects Hollywood’s rich heritage through a restoration that blends history with innovative technology, reestablishing the landmark as a premier moviegoing destination. This year’s awards also recognized projects bolstering L.A.’s creative economy, with the Economic Community Impact Award highlighting eight projects that invest in local sound stages projected to expand production space by 35% and create thousands of jobs. The Chairman’s Award honored three new urban parks — Wishing Tree Park, Wilmington Waterfront Promenade, and George Wolfberg Park— each of which transformed underutilized areas into transformative community assets.
“These exemplary projects,” said LABC Chair David Nahai, “reflect the bold vision and determined teamwork of residents, civic organizations, and government leaders to enhance their communities by creating vibrant greenspaces.”
